Port Aransas is a small town of about 3,000 people located along the long stretch of the barrier island called Mustang Island. It brushes up against the Gulf of Mexico and has a big draw for fishing and drinking and birding. It’s a mellow and cool beach town where people look at palm trees and drive around in golf carts. There are a lot of restaurants in the area, including a section called restaurant row that’s next to the water with a pier and a sign that says Fisherman’s Wharf. You can find live music at multiple places around the island, including a number that are walking distance from each other that are featured in this video: Blue Water Cowboy Saloon, Shorty’s Place, Salty Dog Saloon, VFW Post 8967 and Beach Bums. Our ultimate destination was The Gaff where a bunch of folks from the Texas Hill Country met up with Port Aransas songwriters for a day of music and fundraising.
